Random commissions
Here's a few random sketches and commissions I've done over the last few months. Most of these are vector goodness, but there' some paper and ink thrown in for good measure.

It was bound to happen, the Gingerbread man went bad and needs to be taken down a notch.
And a few more pieces for an upcoming action story.

Hey guys
here's a new piece I just finished up, and wanted to see what you all think. it's another all digital piece.
Thanks
So, most of you saw these at sketch group- but I imported it into illustrator to try to color some line art. It's a popup because I don't think the full version will fit.
What do you think?
Hey guys-
I just found out the first story I drew for the Adam Smith Academy is now up on the Revver website. Check it out and leave some comments. This was the first story I drew for them and was split into 3 parts, so make sure you watch them in order.

This is one of the projects I've been working on for the past couple months. The art was done in Illustrator, and is among the first all digital pieces I've done. I've gotten in a lot more practice since then, and I think the new wacom has really improved my lines.
Comments?

I made this for a kid's christmas present, nothing too special, just some vector goodness.
Sorry i haven't posted in.. what forever?.. I've been drawing so much, but unfortunately I cant share them yet...
I finally have a chance to post something- this is just a 20 minute warm up sketch I did recently.

ya dig?

it started out as a means to improve my line quality, but as I progressed I wanted to see it complete, so here's the unlettered cover image. I'll have to tweak the logo to make it match now, but it's just a color swap.
C&C welcome
here's 5 pages of the Wintergate, originally published in the SKS MixTape Vol 1 Anthology.
(c) 2007 John DaCosta
I need to revisit some of the lettering and gray tones to help make it pop, but overall I'm happy how they came out.

C&C welcome, Enjoy!

This is Kintaro, another character in the Wintergate. He's one of the ragtag heroes of the bunch who fights to protect and train Eli, he doesn't appear in the Idol submission pages- his first appearance would be on page 13, one page after my idol submission ends.
If you like what see, read my last post to see how to vote for it in Small Press Idol, please.
ok, so it's round 2 now, thought I'd show off some of the round 2 entry.

"Wintergate
What happens when reality takes a step back and fate intervenes?
Destiny is defined.
During a down pour after school, Eli Greene is almost home. He's the last kid on the bus, and his stop is next. Climbing out into the rain, the boy takes sight of his mother and heads in her direction.
Ignoring the flashing lights of the bus, a car is speeding straight towards Eli. In that moment, when reality should define the doom of Eli, Fate interrupts having opened a doorway to a new and impossible world, shattering the bounds of reality.
Welcome to the Wintergate. A land where monsters, ninjas and magic run free and every creature is more amazing than the last. A land where reality has no meaning. Now, with the help of amazing new friends, Eli discovers his placing in the Wintergate is more than an act of fate, but a means to define his destiny.
All ages fun and adventure."

So, I'm having a bunch of adobe products loaded to my machine at work, and I've been charged with creating cartoon images of my coworkers. I figured why not start with our vice president.. that's a good idea, right?

Sure is a crappy resolution though...
Thought you guys might like to see my only claim to fame.
Beautiful lines by G. Gerald Garcia, colors by me- this was printed in the Smoke and Mirror TPB by Markosia Enterprises.

Decided that after I finished if for my wife's birthday, I'd post it up here too. I hope you guys dig it.
Ah, Wednesday. New comic book day. Fresh and Tasty.
That's how I'd describe Teen Titans Go #37. Artist Sean "Cheeks" Galloway makes a splash first impression as this issue marks his first full length comic book. And what better splash to take than the Teen Titans?
The story takes place the day after Christmas. Writer J. Torres combines mystery, magic and super villians with a Titan spin on "Twas the Night Before Christmas". As The TT's are all snug as a bug, Silky (the worm) wakes Starfire for a late night potty run and a whole lot of crazy adventure.
Artwise, A whole issue of Cheeks is almost overwhelming (in a good way).
Every panel breathes life, energy, attitude and charm.
Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy have never looked better, and I feel pretty confident in saying that no one has ever captured their attitude as successfully as Cheeks has. The opening page says it all.

You can find more of Cheeks' work at http://cheeks-74.deviantart.com/
Teen Titans Go is © DC comics and rules. Go buy it. Now.
So, I decided to surprise my wife with a family portrait- I really suck at capturing likeness, but this is still just a WIP. I'll keep posting my progress on this one, but don't expect the finished one before her birthday next month.

oh yeah, I realize I broke my kid's arm in this drawing... that'll get fixed.
C&C? anyone?
SO, after last thursday's meeting- and with many, many thanks to Diego, I've reworked the composition on the pinup, I think it works much better this time around... How does it stack up to the other one?

Here's a pinup I did for the next KIP miniseries. I like how the grey tones came out, and barring a few touchups and minor adjustments, this is the final piece.
For more information on the series checkout 803 Studios
What do you think?

I made this for my good friend, and fellow Sketcher', Matt Starnes. His birthday was last week, and we celebrated Saturday night. The party was a blast!! Oh yeah, this was colored with Prisma Marker on plain Strathmore 300 series Bristol board.
Leather Jacket Guy is owned by creators Matt Starnes and Diego Jordan.
I've been working on finishing up the pencils for this 5 page pitch for 803 studios
I'm also inking these. I hope it looks good when it's finished, it has been a TON of fun drawing it.

Our first collaborative page, I felt bad since everyone else had brought their inking tools and i only penciled it, so I threw some quick lines on it last night.
I'm totally digging this man, such a fun idea.
I suppose it's my turn to show something off- not that any of it is special, but this is the first page from my baby project, unlettered, I'll probably post more pages in the coming weeks since I'm not actually loading any images to the server.

John DaCosta is 27, working in small press comics for just over a year now. His start was with Infinity Uprising Studios working on the Greek superhero mini series, Metro. He has colored pinups for Markosia's Smoke & Mirror, and contributed a pinup to Portal Comics' Bots sketchbook.
