I’ve been SUPER lazy about posting, but I at least I haven’t stopped drawing! I finished this one a few weeks ago, and I’m really pleased with it. This is my all-time favorite version of the character.

Punk Storm

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010This is some fan art for one of my favorite books, Scott Pilgrim. It started as a sketch at our last Sketch Charlotte meeting, and sat for while, until I got the time/balls to finish it. It deviates a bit from my normal style, but I’m really pleased with the finished product.

American Heroic
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009Commission for a buddy on a podcast message board. He wanted the Vision and Scarlet Witch posed in the manner of the classic painting, American Gothic. Pitchfork and all. Felt like I did it justice, though Scarlet Witch is kinda squoze too tightly behind him. And yes, I just made up the word “squoze”.
What I Do…
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Kilowog sketch
Friday, October 9th, 2009I know I missed last night’s meeting, but that’s no excuse to not post. I feel like this is a bit of a letdown after Tom’s excellent last post, but I gotta keep my streak alive (heh). This is an initial sketch of Kilowog that I’ll later lightbox, tighten and ink. I absolutely hate that left arm, but haven’t figured out what to do with it yet. I hope to have this one ready for the convention on Oct 24.
p.s. Vy, this one has feet, so I hope you enjoy them. As stumpy as they are.
Shaun of the Dead, Part 1
Thursday, October 1st, 2009Hey all, I’m hoping to post the step by step process of completing this piece. It takes me forever to draw, because I’m slow, and because my kids keep me occupied quite a bit. Anyway, this is the beginning of a Shaun of the Dead piece, featuring Shaun and Ed. This is just construction lines on 9×12 bristol. Next step will be to tighten this up, add some details, then lightbox it with bluelines onto a piece of 11×17 comic board. Hopefully I’ll have at least *some* of that done by next Thursday!
The clock is ticking…Animal Man
Thursday, September 24th, 2009This is one of my 20 minute exercises. I draw as much as I can and get as much character in as possible in 20 minutes. I generally do this in lieu of my lunch break…and sometimes during call-in meetings. I’ve never completed a full piece in 20 minutes, but it helps nonetheless. I can cut a bit more loose when I’m not stifled by trying to render all the minutiae.
Animal Man is arguably my favorite character, and I’m definitely gonna take a crack at doing a fully inked piece of him soon.
Punk girls don’t wear fruit boots.
Monday, March 16th, 2009This one was a commish for a coworker featuring Wolverine and her fanfic character, whose name escapes me at the moment. She described the character as “punk” but then proceeded to give me instruction on what she wanted the character to wear. I had kind of a hard time with this one, because I used to skate, and listen to punk, and anyone who did either knows that punk girls don’t wear fruit boots (rollerblades). She also initally started off with (shudder) Shirley Temple-esque tight curls. I was able to convince her that wasn’t a good idea. Nevertheless, this was totally inked with brush and crowquill, which i’m becoming more fond of by the day.
Also, I fixed her left eye and added more of her left side after I scanned this…it looks better in person. I was tired…WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM ME?!?!?!? /endmeltdown
Getting past the fear…
Friday, February 27th, 2009Love. This. Character.
Well I finally did it…this piece is 100% fully brush inked! As always, there’s stuff there that i like, and stuff i don’t like so much, but at least I got over my brush inking fear! Also, his right foot got cut off because my scanner couldn’t accomodate the entire image. /sigh
From here out, i think my inked work will be at least partially brush inked, even though I love my copics/microns/pitts.
9×12 brush and india inks.
