This Week’s Meeting: New Location!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

We’re changing things up a little at Sketch Charlotte this week. This Thursday we’ll be trying out a new South Charlotte location for our weekly meeting:

Hickory Tavern
11504 Providence Road
Exit 57 on 485.
6:30-9:00pm

We’ll look to snag a table either by the bar area or in the main dining area depending on the crowds so when you show up just look for a group of artsy looking types drawing in their sketchbooks.

Since a lot of members seem to live on the southside of town though we thought we’d give this is a shot but this doesn’t mean we’ve abandoned our usual meeting spot at Showmars on 7th.  We’ll be alternating locations each week and will welcome any feedback people have on both spots.

Sketch Charlotte presents: SKETCHERCISE!!

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Okay, if you’ve seen the beautiful drawing Henry did you are aware of this phenomenon. Sketchercise is Sketch Charlotte’s attempt at a weekly themed drawing. First challenge is to draw your favorite comic strip character. It can be whatever you want. Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. If you don’t have time to participate this week there will always be a new theme the following week.
peace,
Herc

Direct ink goodness

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Direct-ink sketches from tonight’s Sketch Charlotte meetup. At left, customer with bigass awesome beard. Right, my buddy Henry, making funny faces as he drew, knowing that I was drawing him. Tonight I rediscovered the joys of direct-ink sketching. Forced my mind to tune in as it turned off and let my eyes and pen do the rest. As always, wonderful to see everyone, laugh, and try to figure out what the hell kind of movies or TV shows they were talking about.

Sketchercisin’ My Blues Away

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Despite the many requests, no, I will not be wearing a leopard spotted leotard to the Sketch Charlotte meetings. I will, however, be wearing a zebra print speedo. Look for it!

Here’s some sketchercises from some recent meetings. I’m really loving meeting weekly, guys!
