Rich’s Sketches from the Union Co. Library Con

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Here are a couple of sketches that I did for the kids on Friday at the Union County Library Con in Indian Trail, NC. Thanks to John Tompkins and the folks at the Library for inviting me. It was a lot of fun.

You can see all my sketches over at my blog: http://www.richbarrett.com/2010/06/26/the-union-county-library-con/

One more…

Friday, June 25th, 2010

My favorite drawings are when the kids let me draw what I want. This is a portrait of the kid asking for a sketch. I wish I would have gotten some pics of all the superhero drawings I did. Especially since I don’t draw superheroes often. ;-p

Another Library sketch

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Another sketch I did today. I was fortunate enough to sit next to Rich who was also sketching his ass off. Tom and John were across the room doing the same. Derek and Nikki were in another room so I didn’t get to see them draw as much. Sketch Charlotte was there in full force today. Loads of fun.

Sketches from June 17th Meeting

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Oh my golly, I had such a great time at last week’s meeting. Here’s the dumb stuff I drew there.

Meanwhile, some other peeps at the table had some astounding work. Bridgit had this awesome horned devil owl page that was pure glory. Chris Brunner brought his thoroughly amazing Boondock Saints cover art. Tom was doing this whacked out pirate mowing the lawn drawing that inspired me to go all bilge rat on my first sketch. Herc drew like 1,000 neat little pictures with black and gray markers. Terence attempted to mind a sketchbook and a 1 year-old simultaneously and fared way better than I might have in the same situation. And Dan and I got all simpatico with dual Superman drawings. Really great time, you guys! Looking forward to all the future Thursday nights, cheers!

Playin’ poker with Luke Cage!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

This is an edited version of the original commission for my buddy Ted. He wanted a Luke Cage piece that showed both versions. He also mentioned liking a playing card drawing I’d done before (Spirit/GL Hal). So I combined the two. The original piece Ted has hanging in his downtown pad has the current Luke Cage on top with the 70′s version on bottom. I thought the 70′s version was a better drawing, so I flipped it, cleaned up the “CAGE” belt buckle and added a playing card-espue background. I’m really happy with how this one turned out!
I’m usually have more of a realistic style, but bending the rules really gave this a playing card feel. The proportions are off, but I think they really serve the overall design. May take a crack at some more playing cards at some point down the line…
The original was done with Copic markers on my usual 9 x 12 bristol board.

Catching a Ride

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Finished up Thursday night’s sketch. Had total fun doing this, and will use it as a springboard for what I’m doing for the next Comicopia cover. What a meeting Thursday was! Awesome to see the newbies, Joel, Jason, Dan and Bridgit. :)

Some HeroesCon sketches

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Hey! It’s me, the new guy. Here’s some junk I drew while holding down a table at the recent Heroes Convention and simultaneously hangin’ with Sketch Charlotte alums Tom and Rich. Hopefully the great time I was having kinda shines through a little in these drawings. Fun!
