Secret Moss

by Tom Davidson

I really had a wonderful time on this one (and so many others recently). I have discovered a meditation of sorts of straight-ink drawing in my sketchbook. Really good stuff. An ever flowing fountain.

Dude, I really like this. I like the simplicity of the line. If that makes sense. ;-p
Nice to see some new art on here.

Thanks, man. A single strong line certainly is more powerful than 10 little ones, even if it’s “outside of the lines” so to speak. ;)

I really admire the straight inking approach and especially those guys like Lewis Trondheim who makes it all look so naturalistic and easy. But, in practice, it petrifies me where I can hardly make a mark. You keep at it though, because there is freedom at the end of that pen, you just gotta be brave enough to let it out. I hope one day to get loose enough where I feel comfortable straight inking as well.

The interesting thing is that even though you’re leaving marks that cannot be easily changed or erased, they look more spontaneous and free. Why I’m glad paper doesn’t come with an “Undo” button. Nice work. Enjoy!
