Sunday, October 11th, 2009Kilowog sketch
Friday, October 9th, 2009I know I missed last night’s meeting, but that’s no excuse to not post. I feel like this is a bit of a letdown after Tom’s excellent last post, but I gotta keep my streak alive (heh). This is an initial sketch of Kilowog that I’ll later lightbox, tighten and ink. I absolutely hate that left arm, but haven’t figured out what to do with it yet. I hope to have this one ready for the convention on Oct 24.
p.s. Vy, this one has feet, so I hope you enjoy them. As stumpy as they are.
Mitchin’ ‘n Ditchin’
Thursday, October 8th, 2009Sorry I missed tonight’s meeting. Real life got in the way, unfortunately. Nothing dramatic, just chores that I overlooked and had to get done before tomorrow morning, namely put the old toilet that I removed as well as a room’s old carpet and padding, cut appropriately and bundled to city specs, out on the curb for Friday morning curbside pickup. Otherwise we’d be living in fine heritage style with those items on our carport for another two weeks. Sorry everyone, I really hated to miss, but it was my own fault. To make up for it, here is a finished work. But since I do believe we should post sketches, ala “Sketch” Charlotte, I’m also including the pencil rough, too. This is for an upcoming back cover for Comicopia, as well as a future splash page or cover for a Circle City Tales story.

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009We’ll be meeting this Thursday night at the Philosopher’s Stone on 7th and Pecan at 6:30pm
Newcomers are welcome. Bring a sketchbook and something to draw with. Feel free to bring stuff you’re working on at home to show around.
We are a pretty casual group that mostly gets together to sketch while we talk about art, films, comics, music, writing, etc. This week we may experiment with themed sketches at the meetup.
Come join us!

Illustration For Coin Operated Boy comic
Here’s the first of two pin-ups for my friend Steven’s comic Coin Operated Boy. It’ll be out in December from Arcana.
sleeper for a Monday…
Monday, October 5th, 2009I just got around to reading the Sleeper series from Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips…and it is amazing! You can definitely see where Criminal & Incognito came from! The volume 2 tpb had a story recap and this was a 1″ square next to the main character’s info. It hit me pretty good, so I decided to knock it out on the back of a backing board before jumping into volume 3. Do yourself a favor and go check this series out!

Sketch for a potential Nathan Sorry cover/title page
Sunday, October 4th, 2009A sketch for a Friday
Friday, October 2nd, 2009Just a pencil sketch I did this week … her neck and arms are all swooped out, but there’s something in there I really like. In fact, I dig this chick. I think I may have a new character.

Shaun of the Dead, Part 1
Thursday, October 1st, 2009Hey all, I’m hoping to post the step by step process of completing this piece. It takes me forever to draw, because I’m slow, and because my kids keep me occupied quite a bit. Anyway, this is the beginning of a Shaun of the Dead piece, featuring Shaun and Ed. This is just construction lines on 9×12 bristol. Next step will be to tighten this up, add some details, then lightbox it with bluelines onto a piece of 11×17 comic board. Hopefully I’ll have at least *some* of that done by next Thursday!
