Herc:

Hey brother,
Nice drawing. I like the brush strokes and the big nose. heeh eee
peace,
Herc

Rich:

This is really sweet. Tom, your linework is getting really confident. I love what you've been doing lately.

Will:

Word to your brush.

The linework in the shoulders and collar has a wonderful textural quality to it.

I'm with Rich on this one. You're not fighting your own style, thereby neatly side-stepping one of my constant pitfalls.

Tess:

I'll join the rest of the crowd here... beautiful work. In fact, I'd put this more into the "illustration" than "sketch" category.

If I may ask, what brush or brush marker were you using?

TomD.:

Oh, wow, thanks everybody. I did this super fast. When I go fast I get all "loopey" and "swirley" lined. I guess it's more of my natural inking style. Ever since I finished reading "Sloth" by Gilbert Hernandez, I've been enamored with spotting blacks, whites and grays to add to a drawing's effectiveness. I whipped this out on yellow typing paper Y had lying around, as fast as I could without thinking. I was jazzed to discover I had a new iconic definition for "eye" in a single brushstroke.

I was using a small Niji water brush that I filled with ink, and a medium ballpoint pen for the shirt grays. They're indespensible to me (I have a large and small size), as you can travel and ink anywhere. They work best the more you let the tip dry out, infused with ink (why I have no idea, but it's true). Get them at www.dickblick.com.

Tess:

Oooh, I have heard about those water brushes... I have been itching to try one out, as a possible happy medium between Faber Castell brush markers (a little crude) and sable plus ink (a little fussy). You have me sold.
