I don't want to be presumptious, being the new guy, but would everybody be interested in trying the Penguin or the Thomas Street Tavern instead of Showmars? Still close to Heroes, but I think the food would be better and beer would be an option. What does everyone think?

I'm always up for breaking away from the hold that Showmar's has on us. Someplace less depressing would be great. However I probably won't make it this week so my opinion doesn't count this week.

I have no problem changing venues but the Penguin (which I Love) is way too crowded. It's rare that you can get in right away. And waiting for a table to accomadate all of us would take too long. Plus, not a fan of the smoking. I too hate Showmars, however. A venue that's closer to Rich and I's side of town would be cool too. hee heee

Yes, the Penguin is way too small and crowded and you can't really stay at a table a long time.
I'm up for a venue change. If it's too far from Dilworth I might be a late arrival since I work and then have to take Elvis the wonder dog out. ; )

I'd suggest The Peaceful Dragon if it weren't out in the freakin' woods. We might also consider a place like Tea Rex (on the subject of tea) however I'll admit that I've never actually been there, so I don't know if they have the capacity.

Tea Rex is most excellent, though not very condusive to our group meeting, I'm afraid (tiny space). The Penguin, which I call the "Dirty Bird" is out for me, though I live a block away ... I don't wanna smoke 18 other people's cigarettes (or smell like 'em).
You know, there are other avenues along 7th Street, such as La-Tea-Da's, or that Jackalope's place, or heck, even Hawthorne's. Just a few more suggestions.
I'll likely not attend this week, so like Rich I guess my vote here is moot. ;)

Off the wall- but I'm not opposed to the Peaceful Dragon- I live right beside it though.. ;) I'm ok with anywhere- but I have a DR Appt that afteroon with a spine specialist. hopefully I'll be there, but I can't guarantee it with the amount of pain I've been in this past week.

okay, it looks like not many people can make it this week. John, Tom, Matt, and Rich are out anyway. I guess we can reschedule for next week since most of us will be going to Tess & Blake's party we can just meet there.
Anywhere on 7th is fine by me. Hawthornes is nice. Or we could meet some where near the South Park area which would be closer for Rich, John, and I. It's time for us to find a new spot for sure. Showmars is just gloomy and I for one am tired of their food. :-(

Whew, I don't check the site for one day and all hell breaks loose. Now I understand why there hasn't been the usual flurry of emails about a meeting time and place. (And here I thought we were just being Weather Wusses.)
It's probably too late to weigh in on this comment thread, but I would vote for the close-in neighborhoods over South Charlotte, especially at rush hour. South End could be a good compromise.
