Sorry, but it had to be done -- Tess' longstanding pump had to be bumped. :) Well, I finally got over my trepidation about inking this project and dove in. I'm working in this smallish book, and the paper is decent though not spectacular, especially when it comes to inking. Given the size of the original, and the fact that it'll be a 1/4-page mini when it comes out, I dove in with brush, even on the lettering. I let it sit for a while because I wanted to give it grays but was afraid to muck it up. After finding inspiration from Osamu Tezuka, I went in during a slow moment at work yesterday. I was really relieved to see that the grays worked out just fine. In the past I've had this tendency to go overboard with graytones. But my experiences in printmaking have really helped, too, when it comes to spotting blacks, whites and grays. I tried to make the foregrounds grays darkest, getting lighter as they go into the background, on panel 3. Let me know what you think. :)

Hey Brother,
Yeah, something new. I vow that I will post something new this weekend and every week there after. I challange the rest of you to the same let's get this site moving.
Okay, enough of that. Tom, I really like it. Tezuka is always influential. I also like the nice thick black strokes. Keep it up. I hope you all had a great holiday. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year and getting the group back in swing.
Peace,
Herc

This looks really great, Tom. I dig your handwriting. It's very neat. I'm envious.
By the way, on your recommendation I got Ode to Kirihito for Christmas. May be a while before I get to it but it looks great.

Love the hand lettering. Wish most comics were done that way.
