Finally posting!

I usually carry around a mini-sketchbook (~ 3 x 5″) so that I can draw when the opportunity presents: mass transit, waiting at restaurants, live music, etc. Here are a few selections.

Tess, these are awesome! These are some of your best drawings that I’ve seen. There is a ton of expression in each line, and it’s loose and free. That’s the joy of sketching. I’ve got a 3.5×5.5 that I carry, too. Okay, now I’ve gotta fill that sucker up.

    Tess,
These are really nice drawings. Tom’s right I too love the expressiveness of the line. Good meeting last night.
    Peace,

Awesome, Tess! That’s a great idea doing sketches of the musicians during a show. You could totally do that to accompany a review of the show, sort of New Yorker-style. I could see one of the local music mags like Amps printing that.

Thanks, guys! The biggest challenge with sketching live music is light (or lack therof). I really miss The Room, for that reason. You can do a contour sketch in near-total darkness, but the end result will come as a surprise!

Wait, the Room is gone? When did that happen?

R.I.P. last August, just about one year ago. There is something new in the building, but I don’t think they do live music. The Room’s old owner has now reopened the former Steeple as The Spot in Plaza-Midwood. I wish him well…
